Meet some of our members
picture of rivendell singers musical director Musical Director - Paul Morley is a graduate of Oxford Brookes and Reading Universities. He spent over twenty years as a high school music teacher, holding a number of posts including Head of Music at Malbank school, Nantwich (1992-1998) and Alsager school (1998-2008). Paul has also held a number of Church posts, including Organist and assistant Diector of Music at St Mary's Nantwich (2002-2007) and is currently Director of Music at St Wilfrid's Church Davenham.

In 2008 Paul became Education Director of Free-2-Lead Ltd (a company working to raise the profile of disabled people in society) and has pursued a parallel career as a freelance Accompanist, Choral Director and examiner.

Paul has been the Musical Director for Rivendell Singers since 2008.

Accompanist - picture of rivedell singers accompanist Stephen grew up in Hertfordshire and learned to play the piano and the organ when he was at school. He went to Sussex University to study law with French, spending his third year in Strasbourg reading French and European Law. During his time at Sussex, he was appointed organ scholar at the university chapel. Following university, Stephen qualified as a solicitor and started his professional life in Northampton where he was the organist and choirmaster of a parish church in the town. Marriage took him to Kent where he sang for several years with the Canterbury Choral Society. His career then took him to Darlington where he played the piano and the organ at his local church and was the rehearsal accompanist for the Darlington Choral Society. Stephen has recently moved to Holmes Chapel and started playing for the Rivendell Singers at the end of 2016.

Baritone Soloist - picture of Rivendell baritone soloist David Hay is a well known baritone soloist. Born in South Wales, David delveloped a serious interest in singing whilst studying at Cambridge university, singing in choirs conducted by David Willcocks and Andrew Davies. After moving to Cheshire where David became Vice Principal at Sir John Deane's Sixth Form College, he became a founder member of the Rivendell Singers with whom he has sung for over forty years ! His repetoire extends from oratorio to modern musicals and he has undertaken solo work with many local choirs.

Drummer - picture of rivendell singers drummer John Goulden is a member of the bass section of the choir, but where the Rivendell Singers perform the Jazz based arrangements, John provides the drum percussion either alongside our piano accompanist or with other guest players.
John also assists John Durston in his role as Publicity Officer for the Rivendell Singers.

Assistant Musical Director - picture of rivendell singers contralto member and committee chairman Joyce Sandles is a member of the contralto section of the choir and also supports Paul Morley as his assistant. Joyce is the Rivendell Singers Committee Chairman and is a main contact should you wish to be interested in joining our choir or booking the choir for your function or concert.

Publicity Officer - picture of rivendell singers tenor member and publicity officer John Durston is a tenor section member of the Rivendell Singers and also performs with other choirs along with his wife Chris, who is a member of our contralto section. John is also our Publicity Officer.

Soloists - We also have the following soloists, Lorna Coy, Jo Brady and Lucy Rosa, who have performed a selection of pieces for the Rivendell choir:

Would you like to join the Rivendell Singers ?

New members are always welcome ! There are no auditions and whilst the ability to read music would be an advantage, a commitment to rehearsal and performance are the most important. Rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings from 7:30-9:30 pm at the Northwich Methodist Outreach Centre (formally Northwich Methodist Church), Witton Street, Northwich.
